Day 1

Here we are, airborne, maybe half an hour from landing in Lisbon. A rather hectic first day in the not-quite-24-hour time period since we've been gone from Magnolia.

It's been said that there's no feeling in the world quite like the last minutes of a week of Vacation Bible School. Try that feeling when you've also had a busy week of meetings AND having to pack your office up for a move! But the time arrived when we threw the bags in the truck, prayed together and a kiss for luck and we're on our way (sorry, Carpenters!). We've only just begun!

I'm lucky to have not only a gorgeous wife but also one who is up for the adventure. We are so looking forward to arriving in Lisbon and seeing the friends we left behind nearly 13 years ago, then catching the train Sunday night through Madrid and up to Pamplona. That's where we'll strap on our backpacks and begin our 420 mile stroll.

Our flight out of Little Rock was delayed by an hour, so the extra time we thought we had in Charlotte was gone and the plane had started boarding when we arrived. We just had time to grab a sandwich since we hadn't eaten since Mama Maxine's in Prescott.

I need to learn to chill out over flight details a bit more, but it's hard to do when you think you see the trip you've planned crumbling before your eyes. Someone observed that most of the things we worry about never happen. But there's always the exception!

The flight attendants have passed out coffee and flight top muffins and are now collecting the trash. Soon we will begin the descent into Lisbon. What adventure awaits? What adventure awaits!
